How good are Levino notebook computers?
Friday, October 10th, 2008 | Laptop Batteries
I’ve noticed Levino notebook computers at mass merchants like Best Buy, Circuit City and Office Depot for about a year and some. They seem competitively priced but who are they? Generally Toshiba and Sony are regarded as the machines of choice over HP and Compaq. Where would Levino stand between thes eother mfg’s? Sould I choose it over which others if all other things are equal?
Thank you
Yes, I meant Lenovo. I recall the IBM Think Pad computers butw as not sure they were the same company. But how are they now for quality - often companies change products when going to consumer markets ?

I think you are talking about Lenovo. They used to build laptop computers for IBM (sold under the name Thinkpad) until they bought out the PC business from IBM.
Their computers used to be geared more to business users, well built but “boring”, without the shininess and gimmicks that many consumer-oriented computers have. I travel a lot and at airports I see a lot of business people using Thinkpads and Dells (usually the Dell business line called Latitude).
For about the last year Lenovo has started to sell computers under their own name, and has added models that are consumer-friendly in addition to keeping the more serious Thinkpad line. All the work computers I have ever used are Thinkpads and I am very happy with them.
Edit to add: My company is still using Lenovo after the ownership change and their branching into the consumer area. I haven’t noticed any change in quality. Fit, finish and materials look the same as before. Same choice of color (black, black or black. No pink, purple, white or canary yellow yet).

I have Lenovo N100 bought last year, when Core due was introduced, The SW features are very good, but the Key board is horrible and also the speakers are bad in class.
My Hard disc was broken and sent to service centre and they replaced for free. Service is very good.
Other than that they are sturdy most use full for business purpose, but if you thinking of buying Thinkpad from Lenovo then it is all together a different experience, I used T40 for 2 1/2 years w/o any issues great machine but after 2 1/2 years hard disc was broken.
This weekend I saw one Lenovo model in officedepot with Dolby , and keyboard is also soft so they are thinking ….
But if your are interested in watching movies etc on laptop then HP is good, some models come with remote.
Positioning wise all companies are same (all laptops are made in China or Taiwan, mostly same Contract manufacturers make laptops for all companies) it depends on how much we want to spend, if things are equal then HP or Sony.
Hope this helps.
Good luck..
